“I paint as a reminder that we live in a wonderful world”
artist statement
My faith in Jesus has been foundational for my creative inspiration, as my art is born out of the realization and constant reminder of the hope and joy that exists in a harsh and often cruel world. Despite the suffering, there is beauty; and we must always look to it.
My career in medicine has also provided inspiration for my art, as it has continually pointed to the value and fragility of life and health, which are all too often taken for granted.
The unpredictability of my life as a military spouse has provided a unique inspiration to notice and treasure every small beautiful detail of life which impacts my painting practice.
I often paint intuitively, which provides me the most freedom in my creative practice. My use of texture, blending colors, and experimenting with abstract patterns makes me feel like a kid again, and reminds me of beautiful moments of childhood!
To me, moments born in the innocence of childhood… running barefoot in the grass in summertime, laughing until your face hurts… these are the beautiful moments of life that should not be taken for granted or forgotten. Reminders of these fleeting but subtly magnificent moments, moments of hope and joy, are what keep us strong and courageous. This is what I hope my paintings can bring to light for you again.
